Soccer:QPR defender and Republic of Ireland youth international Michael Harriman has signed a new two-year contract with the Barclays Premier League club.

Mark Hughes’ side avoided relegation on the closing day of the season and 19-year-old Harriman wants to become a key figure as the team now look to stabilise in the top flight.

“I’ve been at the club for a while now and there’s no other place that I’d rather be at the moment. The club’s got some big ambitions and I’m hoping to be a part of those. My aim over the next couple of years is to try and become a regular in the first team side.”

The Irish teenager made his debut for Rangers in their 2-0 defeat to Rochdale in the second round of the Carling Cup last August and made his Premier League debut the following weekend at Wigan.
