McCarthy pursues Hunt after winger’s release from Wolves

Ipswich manager looks for reunion with Ireland international

Republic of Ireland international winger Stephen Hunt is being chased by his old boss Mick McCarthy after being released by Wolves. As expected Hunt was shown the door by Wolves after they were relegated to League One. He had hoped to win a new deal at Molineux but Wolves need to slash their wage bill.

Hunt, 31, has immediately been targeted by Ipswich Town boss McCarthy who signed Hunt for Wolves from Hull City in the summer of 2010 for £3m.

Hunt’s spell at Wolves was wrecked by injury problems. But he was the one real shining light for Wolves in the closing weeks of the season as they fought an unsuccessful battle to avoid a second successive relegation. In total, Hunt made 66 appearances for Wolves scoring seven goals, As well as Hunt, McCarthy is also showing interest in striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who has also been shown the door by Wolves.
