Diego Simeone agrees deal with Chelsea, say reports in Spain

Diego Simeone has told Atletico Madrid he will leave at the end of the season after agreeing a deal to join Chelsea, according to reports in Spain.

Ok Diario are reporting that Simeone will leave Madrid after four years in charge as he has agreed a deal with the Premier League club worth double his current wage. The salary offered by Chelsea is reported to be €12 million.

Guus Hiddink is currently in temporary charge at Stamford Bridge since the sacking of Jose Mourinho and owner Roman Abramovich is said to be an admirer of what Simeone has done at the Vicente Calderon.

The former Argentina midfielder has won 151 of his 239 matches in four years in charge in the Spanish capital, leading the club to their first La Liga title in 18 years and also reaching the final of the Champions League.

Simeone has also brought a Copa del Rey and Europa League to the club, and has been Barcelona’s main challengers in La Liga this season.

Simeone has also been linked with a move to Manchester United as pressure mounts on Louis van Gaal’s position at Old Trafford.
