Singspiel, fourth to Swain in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes on his latest start, is on course for a crack at the Juddmonte International Stakes at York on Tuesday, trainer Michael Stoute confirmed yesterday. But Entrepreneur, unraced since his odds-on fourth to Benny The Dip in the Epsom Derby, in June, has so far not recaptured his earlier sparkle and will therefore bypass the £250,000added Group One contest.
"Although Entrepreneur worked pleasingly, we feel he would benefit from a little more time and he will not take part," explained the Newmarket trainer.
David Morley has announced that, weather permitting, Ascot Gold Cup winner Celeric will run in the Group Three Lonsdale Stakes at York, also on Tuesday.
Morley's charge, successful in the Yorkshire Cup in May, has an alternative engagement in the Prix Kergorlay at Deauville on Sunday week. But, unless significant rains fall to turn conditions at York against Celeric, the five-year-old son of Mtoto will be in the Lonsdale line-up.
The Irish team in the jump jockeys series in Australia continued their successful run when Liam Cusack won on the 9 to 2 shot Alo-Alo at a rain-soaked Melbourne yesterday.
Cusack used an Irish whip which is shorter than the Australian version and was interviewed by the stewards about it afterwards. Cusack explained that he had been rushing and packed the wrong stick.
The Irish team now travel to the Moonnee Valley track on Saturday.
