EUROPEAN women's cross country champion Iulia Negura (above) has failed a drugs test, it was revealed yesterday.

The Romanian was found to have a derivative of the hormone testosterone after the International Amateur Athletic Federation drugs test.

Negura, 30, who took gold at the European cross country championships in Charleroi, Belgium, last month faces a four year ban.

A statement from the Romanian Athletics Federation (FRA) said: "The doping substance was stanozolol, a derivative of testosterone.

"According the IAAF rules, the FRA has set up a special investigation commission to look into Negura's case."
