Leopardstown to go ahead after inspection

Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase postponed until end of day due to frost

Racing at Leopardstown this afternoon goes ahead following a precautionary inspection due to the threat of frost.

Racing will get under way with the Copper Face Jacks Maiden Hurdle at 12.55 after the opening Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase was postponed.

Course officials are hoping to run it as the final race of the afternoon, after the bumper.

Acting clerk of the course Brendan Sheridan said: “We have postponed the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase and hopefully we will run it after the bumper, but we will continue to monitor conditions during the afternoon.

“We’ll definitely be having five races and hopefully we’ll have seven.”

The Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase is one of two races scheduled to be run over fences, the other being the Grade One Topaz Novice Chase at 3.05pm.

The main event is scheduled for 1.25, with Hurricane Fly and Jezki facing off for the sixth time in the Ryanair Hurdle.

The score currently stands at three to two in the favour of Hurricane Fly.
