A pitch and putt era will end in December when the long-serving national secretary of the PPUI, Peg Smith, steps down after 24 years unbroken service. Smith joined the Lucan Club in 1968 with her husband John. Smith also managed to fit in a number of achievements on the course, most notably in 1992 when she led at the halfway mark in the national intermediate strokeplay championships.

Husband John is a former vice-chairman of the Dublin County Board, president of the Leinster Council, vice president and later president of the PPUI (1986-88). As recognition of his services to the sport, John was inducted on the PPUI Hall of Fame in 1995 and Peg Smith will follow come the PPUI National Convention in Killarney in December.
