Parnevik for the double

If there were any justice in this world at all, then Padraig Harrington would tee it up in this week's TPC of Europe in Hamburg and shoot the lights out. But although his fellow pros might sympathise with his plight, they are unlikely to step aside so easily, and the arrival of a number of high-fliers from the US Tour merely complicates matters.

So it is that Tiger Woods, the world number one, is priced at 2 to 1 (no generosity here either) to win, while Europe's dominant figure of the past seven years, Colin Montgomerie, finally showing some semblance of his old form, is next best in the betting at 9 to 1.

Stay clear of both. Although Woods was a three-stroke winner of this event last year, it was on a different course - and there is some better value to be picked up further down the betting.

Harrington, rightly, would be the sentimental choice after what happened at The Belfry but, even allowing for his tough temperament and tempting odds of 33 to 1, it will be difficult to pick himself up.

So, Bernhard Langer, at 40 to 1, who is no stranger to winning on home terrain, is the each-way money bet, while Jesper Parnevik, coming home to Europe on the back of his second win of the season in the US, is a decent win bet at 12 to 1. The Swede to win, the German to run him close.
