European Cup Round-up: Pool Three: Ospreys 17 Sale 16: English champions Sale suffered a dramatic European Cup defeat after the Ospreys staged a spectacular smash and grab raid at the Liberty Stadium.

Substitute James Hook booted a final-kick conversion eight minutes into injury-time to convert Wales winger Shane Williams' second try of the game.

Sale looked to have done enough, leading 16-10 with the match in its final throes, but the Ospreys strung together numerous phases of attacking play before Williams scampered over.

Hook kept his nerve despite incredible pressure, leaving Sale crestfallen and facing a battle to reach the quarter-finals from Pool Three.

Pool Six: Borders 35 Parma 3

Border Reivers made a stunning return to the European Cup to claim a precious bonus point victory against Overmach Parma at Netherdale.

Borders could not have hoped for a better start, rattling up 14 points without reply in almost as many minutes as they surged ahead with a try by Scott Gray. Calum MacRae calmly added the conversion - then set up the second touchdown for Nick De Luca. MacRae put on the gloss with another well-executed kick from an awkward angle.

Parma broke their duck midway through the half with a Francesco Mazzariol penalty from 25 metres.

Reivers were soon back on the offensive and John Dalziel was next to get his name on the scoresheet with a great try.

Steve Jones took over the boot duties from hamstring-pull victim MacRae and he proved just as accurate.

Further tries from prop Ed Kalman (converted by Jones) and replacement Brendon Daniel (with Kelly Brown converting) completed the rout.

Pool Two: Agen 19 Edinburgh 17

Edinburgh's quest to become Scotland's first team to snatch a European Cup win in France ended in acute frustration.

A brilliant late try by Canadian winger Mike Pyke had looked like tilting the balance in favour of the capital brigade after a stirring fightback.

But substitute Francois Jelez gleefully thumped over the clinching penalty for Agen just two minutes from time.
