Heavy rain forced the ILGU to abandon yesterday's final round of the 54-hole Irish Women's Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Waterford Castle. Suzanne O'Brien (nee Fanagan) of Milltown, last year's Irish close champion, who had a course record of a five-under-par 67, was declared the winner.

O'Brien had a total of 141 for Saturday's 36 holes, which was six ahead of Lillian Behan (Curragh), the current Irish champion, who had rounds of level par 72 and 75. Elaine Dowdall (Wexford), who won the Irish under 23 intermediate title last week, was third, with rounds of 72 and 76.

The Milltown player, who had six birdies in her record round, was out in two under and home in 33, for a three-under-par total. The Curragh player had two birdies and an eagle three at the 13th.
