RICHARD QUINN cart gain small compensation for his failure to land the Lincoln by landing the Kingsnorth Handicap at Folkestone today on Minnisam. The Scot was out of luck on Saturday when his mount Sharp Prospect was sent off favourite for the first big race of the Flat season only to trail in last of the 24 runners.
But Quinn had proven himself a jockey in form with a double at Doncaster on Friday and he can resume winning ways on Minnisam for John Dunlop.
His mount is a colt typical of his trainer, bred to shine over middle distances as a three-year-old and not given anything like a hard time as a juvenile.
He gave plenty of encouragement for the future in three runs last year over trips unlikely to bring his stamina into play, ridden with an eye to the future each time.
Minnisam can be expected to show significant improvements now that he is given the chance to tackle a mile and a half for the first time - enough improvement to make a weight of 8st 11lb on his handicap debut took very lenient.
Pride of Brixton can also make a successful reappearance in the Shornecliffe Median Auction Maiden. He is the clear form choice for this contest judged on his eight-length second to pattern-race performer Apple Musashi at Lingfield last September.
And he would have finished a good deal closer to the John Gosden-trained colt - who finished fourth in a Group Three event at Deauville subsequently - had he not been eased considerably late on in very testing conditions.
A more mature Pride of Brixton will see out the six-furlong trip much better this year and faces nothing of Apple Musashi's calibre here.
