Tony McCoy has set his eyes on yet another record after reaching the fastest double century by a jump jockey at Sandown yesterday.
McCoy bettered the benchmark he had set two years ago by 10 days when partnering the Martin Pipe-trained Mr Cool to victory in the Fox Novices' Hurdle
Now he has his sights set on the total of 269 set on the Flat by Sir Gordon Richards, the greatest winning total achieved in any season.
McCoy feels he can do it and said: "It's definitely possible as long as the Pipe horses keep firing and I don't get too many days off."
McCoy, who returned to warm applause, appeared bashful as he reflected: "I thought the last time I rode 200 winners I'd never do it again. To be honest it's quite surprised me that I've done it so quick."
Peter Scudamore, the only other jump jockey to have passed the 200-mark in a season, believes McCoy can take the late Sir Gordon's record.
Scudamore said: "I would think that is well, well possible.
What he has achieved is magnificent. People try to knock it, saying times have changed, but horses have still got to be ridden, and falls have still got to be had. It's a tribute to the partnership of McCoy and Pipe.
"I thought (John) Francome, (Richard) Dunwoody and Jonjo (O'Neill) and him are the best I've ever seen and for whatever reason they are on a different planet to all the rest. And what he's now done is remarkable."
Nordance Prince can gain a poignant win for Venetia Williams in today's Mitsubishi Shogun Ascot Chase. This was the last race won by his stable-companion Teeton Mill, who underlined his Tote Gold Cup claims with a comfortable success 12 months ago.
Unfortunately, disaster struck at Cheltenham and Teeton Mill suffered the injury which caused him to be retired a few days ago.
Nordance Prince can ensure the week ends on a happier note for his trainer. He has already won twice at Ascot this season, landing the first National Bank Gold Cup in November and the Chandler Handicap Chase last month.
The nine-year-old showed tremendous resolution to get the better of Flagship Uberalles in the latter and will again be hard to beat. But he is deserted by Teeton Mill's jockey Norman Williamson. The Cork-man has been lured to Warwick to maintain his partnership with the exciting prospect Monsignor, who bids for a fifth win off the reel in the Michael Page Technology Novices' Trial Hurdle.
His mount won the Festival Bumper at Cheltenham last season and is hot favourite to land another win at the big meeting in the Royal & SunAlliance Novices' Hurdle this term.
The Mark Pitman-trained six-year-old looks Britain's best novice hurdler, after authoritative victories in graded events at Sandown and Uttoxeter on his last two starts.
Fadalko looks best in another three-runner race for the Michael Page International Kingmaker Novices' Chase.
The Scottish Champion Hurdle winner looked a high-class chaser in the making when he won novice events at Bangor and Cheltenham in the first half of the season.
Given a two-month break after a modest effort at Sandown, he confirmed that earlier favourable impression with a smooth handicap win at Uttoxeter and he remains a youngster of infinite potential.
Frankie Dettori rode a winner on his only mount at Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates yesterday when Bahamian Bandit accounted for Abreeze and Jila by three-quarters of a length and the same in a seven-furlong conditions race.
