Maximum of 13 will take on Entrepeneur

A TOTAL of 14 runners were yesterday declared for the Vodafone Derby at the 48-hour final declaration stage

A TOTAL of 14 runners were yesterday declared for the Vodafone Derby at the 48-hour final declaration stage. The number means that the race will have its smallest field since Generous triumphed in 1991.

The only defectors were Saeed bin Suroor's Stowaway and, as expected, the Luca Cumani-trained Grapeshot.

Stowaway's defection leaves bin Suroor with one runner in the Derby, Bold Demand, as he bids to add to the emotional victory of Lammtana in the 1995 renewal, but Crisford is confident of a bold showing from the bay son of 1985 winner Slip Anchor.

Michael Stoute, bidding to win the race for the third time following the successes of Shergar (1981) and Shahrastani (1986), launches a two-pronged assault.
