MANNIX COLLEGE, Charleville, won their first All Ireland Vocational Schools SH final when they overcame Athenry VS at a wet Newmarket on Fergus yesterday.

A Marfin Finn goal on eight minutes allowed Mannix College to thunder into the game, and with ace marksman Ben O'Connor scoring five first half points the Charleville lads led by 1-8 to 0-6 at half time.

Athenry had fine performances from Derek Carroll, Kenneth Cullinane, Joe Hessin, Jamie Cannon, Eugene Cloonan and P J O'Brien.

Mannix College looked a well drilled and highly motivated outfit with goalkeeper Paul Morrissey, Brian Bowles, Maurice Farrell, Pat Hayes, Martin Finn and, of course, the O'Connor twins being most impressive.
