Love wins by three in Hawaii

US PGA Champion Davis Love fired a five under par 68 to win the Kapalua International unofficial PGA Tour event in Hawaii.

Love, who went into the final round in a share of the lead with David Toms had a four round total of 22 under par 268 to take victory by three strokes from his playing partner Toms, who shot a 71.

Olin Browne was a shot further back on 272.

Love and Toms had been 17under-par 200 after 54 holes of the tournament, which was played on two courses. The final two rounds were played on the par-73 Plantation Course.

Love had a third-place finish at the season-ending Tour Championship and was third on the money list with more than $1.63 million. He has performed well at this event in previous years, winning it in 1992, finishing second in 1990 and 1991 and tying for third last year.

There will be no event next year, but the Kapalua International becomes a regular stop on the PGA Tour beginning in 1999.
