FAI CUP: Longford Town 2; Limerick FC 1: Longford Town edged into the quarter-finals by way of this nervous victory over Limerick FC at Flancare Park on Saturday.

Longford were much superior throughout but lived on their nerves in the closing stages as Limerick at last made a game of it.

Longford broke through in the 48th minute when Shane Barrett fired home from the edge of the six-yard box. The same player doubled Longford's advantage just two minutes later.

Longford were made to suffer somewhat when Colm Heffernan's was finished to the net by defender Paul Finnucane.

LONGFORD TOWN: O'Brien, Murphy, Prunty, McGovern, Dillon, Keogh, Kirby, Perth, Levine, Barrett, Byrne. Subs: Francis for Byrne 67; Mulvihill for Levine 84.
