The word "overuse" is thrown up a lot in the sporting world these days, mostly referring to excessive training and competition syndromes in players but quite often regarding the managers chequebook as well.

Anyway, everything that surrounds the training side of things will be addressed in a special conference at Dublin City University next Saturday, titled Overtraining in Sport.

Jointly organised by the Exercise and Sport Science Association of Ireland and the Irish Sports' Medicine Association, the one-day conference will examine: Stresses imposed on players, the ability of the players to cope with and adapt to the rigours of training and competition, and the treatment and management of the overtrained player.

The conference will be chaired by DCU's Dr Kieran Moran and he describes the content as relevant "to the very top coaches right down to the ordinary enthusiast starting out in the gym".
