TWO MEN who sent parcel bombs to Celtic manager Neil Lennon and other prominent figures connected to the football club were jailed for five years each yesterday.

Trevor Muirhead (44) and Neil McKenzie (42) were jailed for conspiring to assault Lennon, former MSP Trish Godman and the late QC Paul McBride, as well as people at the republican organisation Cáirde Na hÉireann, by sending devices they believed were capable of exploding and causing severe injury.

McKenzie, from Saltcoats, Ayrshire, was also sentenced to 18 months for a separate charge of posting a hoax bomb to Lennon at Celtic Park to make him believe it was likely to explode, which will run concurrently with his five-year sentence.

Meanwhile, Rangers administrators Duff and Phelps have confirmed they have received two formal bids for the club – one from the Blue Knights and one from Bill Miller.

The Blue Knights – fronted by former Ibrox director Paul Murray – have joined forces with Sale Sharks owner Brian Kennedy and submitted what they described as a “substantial” written offer to purchase the club yesterday.

Their bid is subject to a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) being agreed with creditors and the acquisition of current owner Craig Whyte’s shares.

American tycoon Miller has also made his interest in the Glasgow giants official, albeit with conditions relating to sanctions imposed on the club by the football authorities.

On the pitch Georgios Samaras, Scott Brown, Kelvin Wilson and Glenn Loovens return to the Celtic squad for tomorrow’s meeting with Rangers at Parkhead. Lennon chose to rest some of his star players for the trip to Motherwell last week but will bring them back for the last Old Firm game of the season.

Midfielder Ki Sung-yueng (hamstring) and James Forrest (ankle) are out but Adam Matthews (ill) and Beram Kayal (ankle) could be included in the squad.

Rangers look likely to be boosted by the return of Kirk Broadfoot and Jamie Ness.
