BOXING: Irish middleweight Andy Lee improved to 28 wins (20 KOs) from 29 outings with a two-round demolition of Saul Duran in Michigan on Saturday night.
The Limerick southpaw dropped the Mexican journeyman in the first and finished him off just under one minute into the second frame at the Collection Showplace venue.
Lee, ranked number two by WBA and WBO, is hoping to get a shot at WBC kingpin Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in El Paso in June.
Meanwhile, Dublin’s Stephen Ormond lost his bid for the vacant Celtic super-featherweight belt after dropping a unanimous decision to Scotland’s Paul Appleby in Glasgow on Saturday night.
Ormond’s stable-mate Gary O’Sullivan stretched his unbeaten run to 14 wins with a points decision over Paul Morby on the Braehead Arena undercard. “I thought that Stephen won seven of the rounds and he was robbed,” said his coach Pascal Collins, a brother of ex-world champion Steve. “Paul Appleby is a fine boxer, but Stephen won the fight in my eyes. Gary boxed very well and he won all six rounds.”
