Leddy to face Taylor as Sherman suffers injury

BOXING: AMERICAN lightweight N’yteeyah Sherman has withdrawn from tomorrow’s meeting with Katie Taylor in Waterford

BOXING:AMERICAN lightweight N'yteeyah Sherman has withdrawn from tomorrow's meeting with Katie Taylor in Waterford. The Ohio boxer was scheduled to meet Taylor at the Dungarvan Sports Centre but picked up a facial injury in training last Tuesday and has been ruled out.

Louisiana-born Liz Leddy, who boxes out of the Portland BC, replaces Sherman for the Peter Crotty Memorial Tournament in Dungarvan.

World number one Taylor also headlines against Leddy in a 15-bout St John’s BC-hosted show at the Silver Springs Hotel in Cork tonight.

Taylor will be aiming for her 124th win from 131 outings since her first official bout, in Dublin in 2001, in Cork, but USA coach Jerry Loughran reckons Leddy can cause problems in Cork and Waterford.

“She has a very aggressive, stalking style that Ms Taylor has struggled against in the past,” said Loughran.
