TWENTY YEAR OLD Yorkshire ace Dougie Lampkin (Beta) shattered the opposition with an outstanding victory in the Irish Grand Prix at Redhill, Co Antrim, following a similar feat in last week's British round of the World Trials Championship. He is now just one point behind the leader, Marc Colomer (Montesa) after three rounds of the title chase.

Lampkin led over all three laps but was in trouble at Section 14 when he twice fell heavily, damaging a wrist but still managed to beat his nearest rival Colomer by 14 points, while seven times champion, Spain's Jordi Tarres, had to be content with third position.

Best of the home riders was Robert Crawford (Beta) in 19th place, with Paul McLoughlin 27th and Andrew Perry 28th.
