The result may be academic but Brian Kerr's Republic of Ireland under-16s have at least the opportunity to salvage their pride in their game against Turkey in the UEFA qualifying tournament today in Netanya in Israel. This team, which returns home tomorrow, has paid a heavy price for one bad display when they lacked much of the drive and guile that Kerr usually instils in his teams in losing 3-0 to Israel on Thursday. Israel took the place in the UEFA finals in the Czech Republic in April which Ireland coveted.

PROBABLE TEAM (4-4-2): Roche (Nottingham Forest); Hudson (Nottingham Forest), Coleman (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Shevlin (Nottingham Forest), Murphy (QPR); McDermott (Manchester United), van Zanten (Tolka Rovers, capt.), Field (Arsenal), Cash (Nottingham Forest); Doyle (Blackburn Rovers), McNamara (Nottingham Forest).
