The Island women's team will take a one-point lead into the second leg of the Townsend Foursomes final at Headfort on Saturday next. The Island took advantage of the home venue to win the first leg 2-1 on Sunday, with former girls' champion Pamela Murphy and Miriam Gartland leading the way with a 4 and 2 win over Hilary Collins and Mary McCabe. However, Headfort gave themselves every chance of an overall win when their second pairing of Maria O'Reilly and Pauline Walsh were always ahead in beating Geraldine Ryan and Eileen Lowe 4 and 2. In the final match, Mary Dinan and Kathleen Culhane led all the way for a 3 and 1 win over PK O'Reilly and Orla Foley .
