Golf is a game of honour and Con Buckley from the Grange golf club must be commended for the sporting manner in which he disqualified himself from The Island junior scratch cup over the Easter weekend.

Buckley led the field after the first round with a two-over-par 73 in very windy conditions. In the final round on the Monday, Buckley needed a birdie at the 18th to tie clubhouse leader, Scott Diamond. Buckley drove into deep rough down the 18th and was delighted when his partner, Daire Venables found the ball. He played out the hole but then realised that the ball he played, while being the same make and number was not the ball he hit from the tee, and promptly disqualified himself.

Diamond, who had rounds of 78 and 77, won by one shot from Venables, another Island member, with Darren Moore from Seapoint taking third.
