Pat Hickey, president of the Olympic Council of Ireland, has been elected vice-president of the European Olympic Committee. Hickey, who is Ireland's representative on the International Olympic Committee, won the key position by one vote from Britain's Dick Palmer and will now direct Europe's involvement in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
