FAI Cup Second round/ Galway United 2 Finn Harps 2: It was a dramatic finish at Terryland Park as Finn Harps snatched a late draw despite Galway striker Derek Glynn demonstrating his goalscoring prowess with a third brace in as many matches.
Only five months ago Glynn was operating in the Mayo League with Claremorris, but in the proceeding 270 minutes of football he has shot to national prominence. The opening period belonged to Glynn, who rattled the Finn Harps net twice.
Left full back Philip Reilly provided the assists after three and 31 minutes for Glynn who applied crisp finishes on both occasions.
Harps have flickered with intent in the harsh environs of First Division football and arrived in Galway quietly confident having only conceded two goals in their previous five matches. Three stalemate's with Galway during 2006 suggested this would be a tense tussle.
Galway's purposeful start might have disturbed many teams, but Harps battled admirably and they were injected with hope when Conor Gethins netted a 73rd-minute penalty after Tony Shields was fouled in the area by Gary Rogers. Then four minutes from time Stephen Parkhouse headed Shaun Holmes' corner into the roof of the Galway net to ensure a replay will be required on Monday.
