Sean Cavanagh and Peter Hughes (2) shot early points, before Monaghan's Kieran Hughes and Dessie Mone struck for Monaghan.

Again it was their talisman Cavanagh who drew a number of fouls allowing Darren McCurry to convert the frees and ease the Tyrone into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead.

That was before Darren Hughes inspired Monaghan's comeback, and they shot the last three points of the half, Stephen Gollogly narrowing the gap.

Tyrone led 0-7 to 0-5 at the interval, but debutant Ryan McAnespie had just give Monaghan the lead for the first time when the lights went out four minutes into the second half.

Nonetheless on the resumption the visitors dominated the remainder of the game, with Gollogly rifling home a 60th minute goal to secure a comfortable victory.
