Dundalk Motor Cycle Races on Sunday promises to be a thrilling meeting, with lots of wide and fast corners and plenty of safe spectating areas to view the likes of Joey and Robert Dunlop, James Courtney, Gary Dynes, Adrian Archibald and Owen McNally.
Rounds of Formula Opel, Formula Ford Zetec and Dunlop Touring Cars are featured at Kirkistown, Co Down, tomorrow. Jason Pollock on 28 points leads the Formula Opel Championship from Vivion Daly (21) and Peter Duke (20). Championship placings in the Opel Cup are: Michael Keohane 28; Noel Dunne 26; Mark Kershaw 22.
Dubliner Neil Shanahan completed his Leaving Cert exams last week and the St Mary's College 18-year-old celebrated in style by winning the Ford Zetec Championship race at Mondello Park, his third win in a row and his fourth of the series. With five races to run, Shanahan leads on 68 points from Chris Paul (58) and Phillip Kehoe (40).
Gavin Smith (20), is the man to watch in the highly competitive Fiat Uno class. He won round four at Mondello last Sunday, beating no less a saloon car racing expert than Michael Cullen. He claimed pole position in all four championship races and has won two in his first racing season, and is currently fourth on 24 points behind Greg Turley (34), Liam Rabbitt (28) and Gilbert McFarland (27).
With 130 entries confirmed, it is amazing to see the names of five top drivers on the reserve list for the Carrick fixture, including Michael Barrable and Niall Maguire.
However, the Carrick-on-Suir Motor Club expect all five to come under starter's orders in Waterford for the 10.0 a.m. start at The Bridge Hotel. The 3x3 stages are at Lisnakill, Knockaderry and Kilmacthomas; with 2x2 stages at Beallough and Croughan Hill; service on the Waterford-Cork road near Carroll's Cross after stages three and seven.
