Frankie Dettori will appear before the Jockey Club's disciplinary committee in London on Thursday following his referral for "careless riding" by the Newmarket stewards last month.

Dettori was found guilty of the offence when partnering Baajil in the EBF Red Lodge Maiden on October 31st and he was automatically referred to Portman Square under the totting up system.

The jockey faces a minimum 14-day ban with the likelihood of a suspended sentence, deferred for up to six months, on top of that.

Furthermore, because it is known that he has no intention of riding on the all-weather in Britain this winter, the disciplinary committee may take the option of deferring any suspension until it has some effect on the dual champion's racecourse opportunities.

Meanwhile, Tim Easterby's jumpers are in tip-top form and the Malton trainer has sound prospects of a treble at Sedgefield today with Skillwise, Thunderpoint and Rye Crossing.

Skillwise makes his debut over timber in the Stanley Racing Novices' Hurdle over an extended 21 furlongs and this promising individual looks a good bet to get his new career off to a winning start.

On an earlier visit to the County Durham track the son of Buckley responded well to some strong driving to account for the highly-regarded Justin Mac in a competitive bumper.

Just the sort to take to hurdling, Skillwise, who looks a ready made stayer, is a confident nap selection with Patrick Haslam's Flat winner Old Hush Wing the danger.
