Cork retained their Vocational Schools Hurling championship title beating Galway by a goal in a thrilling final at Cusack Park, Ennis yesterday. Galway grabbed the initiative and lead by eight points to three, with five minutes left in the half. It was then that Cork's centre forward Martin Finn took control, slamming in an opportunist goal to narrow the gap to two points. The Galway forwards hit back with a great goal by Gary Hurney. They led at half time, 1-8 to 1-5.
On the re-start Galway's three-point advantage was quickly shattered. Within 10 minutes the winners banged home three goals and four points, leaving the score 49 to 1-8.
Galway fought back and a goal by centre forward David Tierney gave them hope. But it was not to be.
