Brian Condren of the County Wicklow club had good and bad news during the second round of the East of Ireland Open tennis championships at Londonbridge last evening.
A late call-up to play for Leinster in the junior interprovincial series in Galway today and tomorrow was welcome news, but it meant an enforced withdrawal from the East after he had won the first set of his second round match against David Cooney.
Robert Sherry won impressively when beating Stephen Taylor in a long match that went to a final set. He takes on James Pringle this evening when the seeded players enter the fray.
Tim Henman was beaten 6-4, 7-5 by Thomas Muster in the first round of the ATP championships in Cincinatti.
