Clubs meet RFU today

TALKS aimed at ending English rugby's bitter year-long power struggle will continue today

TALKS aimed at ending English rugby's bitter year-long power struggle will continue today. Four-man negotiating teams representing the Rugby Football Union and EPRUC (English Professional Rugby Union Clubs) spent all of last Friday and the weekend trying to thrash out a peace formula.

No agreement was reached, with discussions then adjourned until today at the same secret location.

The RFU are represented by executive committee chairman Cliff Brittle, president John Richardson, secretary Tony Hallett and treasurer Colin Herridge.

EPRUC, formed from England's 24 First and Second Division clubs, will again send in chairman Donald Kerr, Peter Wheeler, Sir John Hall and Charles evison.

EPRUC have postponed indefinitely their threat to break away from the RFU, hoping that a compromise can shortly be reached on crucial matters such as income distribution and competition control.

In return, the RFU will expect a firm undertaking from EPRUC to release contracted club players for England squad sessions throughout the season.

Former France captain and coach Jacques Fouroux has returned to the union code after a two-year interlude in rugby league.

Fouroux, until recently chairman of the French Rugby League, was voted unanimously as president of his home town second division club Auch on Monday night by fellow members of the club's new board of directors.
