Tyrone 1-11 Mayo 4-7:Conor Mortimer's hat-trick set up an all-Connacht semi-final against Galway as Mayo stunned Tyrone at Healy Park yesterday.

Tyrone preserved their Division One status, however, thanks to Kerry's win over Dublin at Parnell Park.

Tyrone were four points to 0-0 ahead after 12 minutes. Martin Penrose scored two points while the McMahon brothers, Joe and Justin, both found the target with long-range efforts.

Mayo opened their account after 15 minutes, a converted free from Alan Dillon, and they were level two minutes later when Mortimer slotted home a penalty after he had been fouled by Justin McMahon.

Andy Moran saw an effort come off the base of a post as Tyrone lived dangerously at the back, but at the other end Colm Cavanagh flashed a snap-shot just over the bar.

Dillon converted another free, and after the Ulstermen had lost their influential midfielder Joe McMahon to injury, Mayo scored their second goal on 35 minutes.

Alan Dillon's lofted sideline ball went right to the far post, where the lurking Mortimer scrambled the ball over the line.

Mayo led by 2-2 to 0-7 at the break, and the first of Ger Brady's three second-half points stretched the advantage.

But the home side took the lead midway through the half when Cavanagh drilled the ball to the net from close range.

The dismissal of Mulligan, for an attempted trip on Brady in the 60th minute, proved to be Tyrone's undoing, however.

Mayo closed the game out with two late goals, both created by the influential Brady, with the finishing touches applied by Howley and Mortimer.
