Caitriona's Choice looks just right for Fairyhouse feature

NO significant snowfalls are expected in the immediate future but near freezing daytime temperatures and severe overnight ground frost is the chilly forecast for up to next Thursday.

Unless there is a significant rise in temperatures there appears to be little chance that tomorrow's rescheduled meeting at Fairyhouse will be held. Postponed from New Year's Day fresh declarations were made yesterday with additional horses listed for five of the seven races.

Whatever the fate of the next few fixtures it is to be hoped that next Saturday's important Leopardstown meeting can be held. As usual, we can expect several English trained runners for the featured Ladbroke Hurdle, which has remained at home for the past nine years despite a strong cross Channel challenge each year.

Meanwhile, Ancient Historian, the nine length winner of a handicap hurdle at Navan before Christmas, is an additional runner in the Fairyhouse Handicap Hurdle tomorrow. However, I stick by the Michael Cunningham trained Caitriona's Choice who finished a respectable three length third behind that good horse Dardjini and Family Way in a competitive handicap hurdle over this course and distance in November. Legal and Tender, who at a difference of 32lb just held the challenge of Rawy at Leopardstown, carries her penalty.

Glint Of Eagles, a two length second behind Finchpalm at Leopardstown on Sunday has been added to the Kilbride Beginners Chase, for which I favour The Latvian Lark, who finished fourth behind Rockfield Native over this course last time out and runner up to the subsequent dual winner Dun Belle, before slipping and falling when in contention at the second last fence in the race won by Papillon here in November.

The original seven runners for the Father Time Handicap Chase stand their ground. Barnageern Boy should have the measure of Scobie Boy, six lengths adrift of Jim Dreaper's charge over this course last time out.

There are five additional runners declared for the First Crack Handicap Hurdle of which Tell The Nipper, just over seven lengths adrift of Miltonfield in the Cheltenham Gold Card qualifier at Leopardstown appears the pick.
