Beef Or Salmon roadshow heads to Cork

RACING/News: Beef Or Salmon faces a maximum of six rivals in Sunday's O'Connell Warehousing Hilly Way Chase at Cork. Trainer Michael Hourigan has signalled his intention to run the seven-year-old as he is keen to get as much experience into him ahead of a repeat bid for the Gold Cup.

Hourigan's charge has already run twice this season, most recently when beating Tiutchev at Punchestown last weekend, and will be dropping back to two miles on Sunday in a race he won last season.

Glenelly Gale (will only run if the ground is good) and Knife Edge, who was beaten 19 lengths by Beef Or Salmon when sixth in the Punchestown race, head the list of possible opponents. Killultagh Storm and Rathgar Beau are also expected to take part, but there are doubts over Fadoudal Du Cochet and Native Scout.

Solerina and Xenophon could be in action as well this weekend, with both holding entries at Navan. The former is one of 10 in the Grade Three Giltspur Scientific Tara Hurdle, while the latter faces 12 possible rivals in the Kevin McManus Bookmakers EBF Novice Chase.

Meanwhile, Kadoun came in for significant support yesterday ahead of his run in tomorrow's £100,000 Tripleprint Gold Cup.

The six-year-old, who will carry the colours of JP McManus in Cheltenham's extended two-and-a-half-mile chase, is now 7 to 1 from 12 to 1 with Coral.

The Michael O'Brien-trained gelding, a winner at Naas last month, was cut to 9 to 1 from 12 to 1 by Ladbrokes.

Hills also saw continued support for Nicky Richards' Telemoss and the gelding is now 7 to co-second favourite of three with the Leeds-based firm in the absence of Fondmort, who has been announced a non-runner.

Telemoss' best form has come on ground with plenty of cut in it, something which at the moment he appears unlikely to get at Prestbury Park. "We have had up to 4.8 millimetres of rain overnight and this morning and the going on both courses is good, good to firm in places," a spokesman for the track said this afternoon.

"The forecast is for a dry night followed by a wet day tomorrow, with as much as 10 millimetres falling in the morning and during racing. We also expect a little rain after racing, but Saturday is expected to be mainly dry."
