CUSHENDALL star Conor McCambridge almost singlehandedly secured an encouraging win for Ant rim over London at Casement Park yesterday. The 23 year old half forward claimed a personal scoring tally of 1-12, in a win that should secure Antrim's place in Division Two.
Antrim manager, Dominic McKinley, was without several top names including Eoin Colgan, Seamus McMullan, Paul Jennings and Sean Paul McKillop and had been forced to give debuts to younger squad members.
London had former Tipperary minor, Tim Moloney, to thank for keeping them in the game throughout. Only when Moloney who scored 1-8 (5 from frees), hit, the net in the 47th minute to make he score 1-19 to 1-11, were Antrim forced to up the ante.
The visitors scored a second goal five minutes later, this time substitute Enda Muldoon converted a half chance after the Antrim defence had cleared a Moloney goal bound free. But Jim Connolly in mid field and Sambo McNaughton stood head and shoulders above the visitors in the final 15 minutes.
Antrim were forced to finish with 14 men after defender, Ronan Donnelly, was stretchered off with a head wound which required eight stitches, following a clash with London's Mark Waldron.
