MERRY GALE, absent with a respiratory problem since being pulled up in the rescheduled King George VI Chase at Sandown in January, makes his reappearance in today's Morris Oil Chase at Clonmel.

This £20,000 two and a half mile Grade Two event was ear marked for the seasonal debut of Gold Cup hero Imperial Call but he suffered an over reach a few weeks ago and will not be seen until the end of the month.

It will be interesting to see how Merry Gale fares. Jim Dreaper's charge, ridden for the first time by Mark Dwyer, is currently rated 11lb behind Imperial Call and 23lb above today's main rival, Antonin, who was raised 11lb following his recent victory at Wexford where he made virtually all the running to beat Belvederian by a distance.

Meeting Antonin at levels, Merry Gale would normally be expected to win but Herbert Stanley's star, who started second favourite behind One Man in the King George VI Chase, will surely be in need of this race.
