Sir, – Could I suggest an alternative use for George’s Dock in Dublin following the scrapping of plans for the whitewater rafting course.
Fill the basin with soil and create a green space. A large, south-facing riverside green would be a wonderful amenity for all, not just a small group (as the whitewater facility would have been). With the growing number of city-centre apartments, residents are going to need more public spaces.
As a green area it would also remain available for markets and concerts. Such a project would deliver much more value, for more people, at much lower cost. – Yours, etc,
