Sir, – Donald Trump says of the people of the UK and Ireland, “they like me a lot and they agree with me on immigration” (“Trump arrives for three-day visit to London as protesters prepare to rally”, News, July 12th). However, the cruel policy of separating children from their parents at the US/Mexican border was a watershed moment for many people in these islands.
Mr Trump’s disgusting treatment of children is finally sparking many unlikely protesters into joining organised action against the growing threat of right-wing populism in the world. It won’t be just the usual left-wing suspects joining demos in the UK against the US president this weekend, but many “ordinary people” too. – Yours, etc,
