Sir, – Things I love about Dublin: 102. The artefacts which remind us of earlier times, such as Georgian fanlights and coal hole covers, Victorian light fittings, park seats, wrought ironwork, drinking fountains and old incised stone boundary markers. 103. The busy public football pitches, particularly at weekends, and the look of determination on many a youngster’s face as for one moment he sees himself as the Lionel Messi of Bushy Park or Ballymun. 104. The memories evoked by the often badly-converted buildings which were once local cinemas, a reminder of many happy childhood experiences when we were introduced to a different world full of excitement and glamour. 105. The wonderful public library service, where the world of literature, music and the arts is freely available to all, together with access to the world outside, via computers. – Yours, etc,
