Madam, – Recently I travelled from the address below to Dublin to see the production of All My Sonsat the Gate Theatre in Dublin – but not to hear it (ungarbled that is), as I have a hearing problem and the theatre has not yet installed a loop or telephone system in the auditorium to link with that in the HSE hearing aids.
I spoke to the manager on the subject for the second time (once to director Alan Stanford) in the past 18 months. He was sympathetic, but he said the theatre could not afford it.
Yet it could afford an unnecessary revolving stage for its recent production of The Real Thing. I know it was unnecessary because I saw the original production of the play (without the technology) in London and recently reread the script.
It’s time the Gate Theatre got its priorities right. – Yours, etc,
