Madam, - I am amazed at the appalling condition of many of Dublin's roads

Madam, - I am amazed at the appalling condition of many of Dublin's roads. At a time of unprecedented wealth in this country, when public money is being squandered every day, many of the roads in the capital are as woeful as ever. It is only by cycling every day to and from work that one experiences at first-hand the many potholes, pits and uneven surfaces that endanger the lives of cyclists.

I have a simple remedy. If Minister for the Environment Dick Roche had to relinquish his chauffeur-driven ministerial car and had to cycle from his home in Bray to his office in the Department of the Environment, we would soon see an improvement in the city's roads. - Yours, etc,
