Madam, - I would be most grateful if any of your readers could tell me where I can buy a manual typewriter, preferably a portable one.
My old Olympia typewriter, bought in Bradford 15 years ago, packed up just before Christmas and despite exhaustive enquiries I have been unable to find a replacement. Argos used to stock them five years ago, but not any more.
My late father was a guard in a small seaside town in Donegal in the 1950s and early 1960s and the sound of him pounding away on his old manual typewriter in the barracks next door to our house was music to my ears as a child.
