Madam, - Speaking about the current carnage on the roads, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is quoted as saying that a core number of drivers believed it was still acceptable to drink and drive, but that "just one drink impairs. . ." (The Irish Times, April 15th).
Is this the same man whom you quoted on November 14th, 2003, as having said: "I could certainly drink a fair few pints of Bass and be capable of driving"? Now, there's a U-turn! - Yours, etc,
