Sir, - Every time I walk down O'Connell Street, in Dublin, I am affronted by the disgusting fouling of the pavement by chewing gum splatts. Outside the G.P.O. the incidence is seventeen splatts per square metre. It must be the most gum befouled pavement in Europe.
Eighty years ago it was mud, horse dung and spit in the roadway. Nowadays it is gum splatts and spit on the pavement.
Surely the cleansing department of the corporation could find a way to clean up this mess, at least in the principal street of our capital city. - Yours, etc.,
