Sir, - I believe we should not allow this millennium to pass away without recording, in a tangible way, a culture which in many ways has permeated our daily lives for the past four decades. The culture to which I refer is that of the golden circle, the brown paper envelope, and their aftermath, the tribunal. My proposal is to mark this significant culture with the issue of three new postage stamps depicting (a) a golden circle; (b) a brown paper envelope; and (c) a tribunal.
Anybody who thinks this is a frivolous suggestion should note the huge coverage of these matters in the daily and Sunday papers. Tune in to the numerous radio programmes and news bulletins. Hearken to the widespread conversations among all classes of our society. - Yours, etc., Aidan A. Larkin
