Spelling out the joys of Simplex

Madam, – Having noted the use of the four least-used letters in the alphabet, J, Q, X and Z in the Simplex 13849 (Bulletin Page, August 17th), I thought for a moment that all the alphabet had been utilised.

Alas, I am 10 Across to report, the letter K was not included. Simplex always 29 Down in so many ways. My excitement turned to 1 Across as I realised it was not to be my day. It was 9 Down 31 Across for me. I 20 Down to the 35 Across knowledge of those (37 Across?) who set the Simplex and who so often 12 Across on my parade. I will become 24 Down and 17 Across the solution when all the letters are used. My wife, a 22 Across, thinks I should 32 Across from Simplex and be seen to be 4 Down Crosaire, as I am 14 Down a new challenge. – Yours, etc,
