Madam, - Yesterday I boarded a DART at Pearse station. One of the doors of the carriage in which I was sitting was not working properly and the train-driver instructed passengers not to use it. However, as the DART stopped at various stations, people tried to open this door from the outside.
As a result, the train ended up travelling between Dalkey and Killiney, then onwards to Shankill, with the doors in this carriage wide open. Thankfully, there were no unattended children in the carriage. After getting off the train, I alerted a member of the station staff, who informed me that DARTs cannot run unless all doors are closed.
Obviously this is not the case. I feel this is a serious safety concern which should be addressed before any more "upgrading" of the DART system takes place.- Yours, etc.,
