Reducing the pay of judges

Madam, – It is well understood that there is a constitutional prohibition on reducing the pay of judges

Madam, – It is well understood that there is a constitutional prohibition on reducing the pay of judges. However, is it not clear enough that the prohibition was designed to prevent politicians from targeting judges in isolation, as distinct from an across-the-board pay cut applying to all public servants including politicians during a fiscal emergency?

There’s one way to find out: cut judges’ pay, and let the Supreme Court rule on it. – Yours, etc,
