Proposed ban on stag hunting

Madam, – I question the motivation of John Gormley in proposing a ban on stag hunting.

Madam, – I question the motivation of John Gormley in proposing a ban on stag hunting.

A Green Party agenda on animal rights is understandable, but a simple ban on stag hunting independent of broader legislation for hunting is dubious. If animal rights are the principal concern, why would the Green Party seek to ban a single hunt, the only one to my knowledge that doesn’t kill its prey – it chases a flight animal, conditioned for chase.

Public safety has been cited as a reason, but such concerns would not be specific to the Ward Union. Why only attempt to ban the Ward Union Hunt? Surely, considering hunting’s important role in the horse-racing industry, now is not the time to propose a logically inconsistent Bill apparently motivated by vindictiveness? – Yours, etc,
